Everybody waits with baited breath to see the beauty of the bride in all of her glory...

It is important to capture her personality beyond the hustle and bustle of the day... the joy, the contemplation, her unique beauty.


The true beauty of a bride is not in all the frills and lace... it is the beauty that glows from the inside out. The beauty of sheer happiness, of love, of the promise of what life and love will bring.



Capturing her in a contemplative moment... using light and shadow in a close up intimate portrait can emphasize her that beauty.


Or perhaps capturing her in a candid moment in order to capture her sparkle!

Putting on the Dress...

Not an easy task...

Complicated and awkward! Putting on the most complicated attire often requires the assistance of others. It is a moment of panic trying not to smudge black mascara over the pristine white dress... or muss up complicated hairstyles.

Often there is difficult lacing over top of complicated specialty lingerie... tying, twisting, wrangling and wriggling... and all for that final ahhhh moment when everyone looks to the bride in all her glory! One would never know it had been such a struggle.

Ahhhhh.....

The Hanging Dress

There is something so gorgeous about a wedding dress before it has been worn on the day of the event... The way that the light can shine through it picking up on the highlights and the details... It is almost like an unopened gift... a promise.

Preparation...

A wedding is a ritual. The ritual is not just in the exchanging of vows, the toasts, the dances, the cutting of the cake. The ritual begins early in the day or evening when lotions are being applied, make-up and hair and the adorning of the body. This is when some of the deep bonding between the bride and her inner circle occurs and the groom with his inner circle.

A physical and emotional intimacy occurs amongst the participants as they help each other with hair and make-up, applying eyelashes or attaching earrings, cufflinks and figuring out how to pin on a boutonniere.

As a photographer this is a prime opportunity to get to know your subject. It is an opportunity to really get a sense of who they are and who the major players in the wedding are.

This is also an opportunity to figure out who the leaders are the dominant personalities and therefore be able to call on them for assistance later on in setting up group photographs.

For many brides and grooms it is also a time of deep contemplation, there are many wonderful moments to capture a bride contemplating the seriousness of the day when she is spending time alone with herself in the mirror or being pampered by a make-up artist.
